R & R Antiques is one of the longest running antique importing businesses in Australia. Ricki and her husband (the late Richard Gardiner) commenced importing antiques mainly from the UK in 1979. However they identified that Western Australia had a more laid back and casual lifestyle compared to the other states. They broadened their sphere of buying as a result of this market appraisal to include the Channel Islands as well as several European countries including France, Belgium and Holland. It helped that Ricki spoke French and that Richard had family connections in the Channel Islands. The latter was a gold mine for buying all types of antiques from lovely pine to the beautiful flame mahogany pieces which were a speciality of the Islands. R & R soon had the reputation for supplying not only a diverse range or goods but also top quality items to the ever discerning WA buyers. Richard's knowledge of porcelain and clocks meant that a broad range of smaller items were also added to the list of goodies such as clocks, mirrors and light fittings which have become a trade mark of their business. Ricki's love of gardening also meant that antique garden furniture was added to the 'specialist list'. As France was becoming a real centre of their buying, with large trade fairs offering the best prices, the hunt continued to furnish not only inside but exterior antiques. Today, R & R is housed in an attractive, purpose built showroom in Subiaco. There is parking right at the door and the displays feature bedrooms, study rooms, sitting rooms all fitted out with the appropriate furnishings. It has been called "the prettiest shop" in Perth. Why not call in and see for yourselves what delights await. Ricki is on hand to give her 40 years experience to buyers who need advice and the shop also offers restoration and upholstery services. |
